Chapter 8 – IPTV: Streaming Media
DQ: What is Internet protocol? The “address” assigned to every computer/online device. What is Internet protocal television? Television that is delivered using Internet protocol over a broadband network.

DQ: What is the “triple play” option?

RealAudio was first offered in 1995. QuickTime TV was introduced by Apple in 1999, soon followed by Flash, DIVX and MPEG players.

DQ: Is the streaming offered on the web mostly “live” or “on-demand”?

DQ: What do you think is the most popular streaming video site? How many total streams and unique viewers do you think this site has?

According to Nielsen, YouTube leads by a wide margin with over 7 million video streams and over 100,000 unique viewers in July 2009. Hulu was a distant second with over 300,000 streams and 10,000 viewers.

DQ: What do you think of when you hear the term “interactive television”?
